Supplier Quality Assurance Engineer

Wärtsilä Valves Limited is a European-based valve manufacturing group supplying a wide range of manual and actuated process valves in steel, non-ferrous, high alloy and composite materials for the global energy industries; Offshore Oil and Gas, FPSO / FSO, Petro-Chemical, Power Generation, LNG, Naval Marine, Marine Services, Waste Water Treatment & Pipelines.

Within Wärtsilä Valves there are three core brands; Shipham Valves, John Mills Valves & Robert Cort Valves. The Valves business, based in Hull, is responsible for the end manufacturing the Valves.

Position description • Preparation and maintenance of supplier/customer related quality plans as requested.
• Application of parts approval PQAP based on parts requirements.
• Inspection of parts/assemblies at supplier’s premises or in-house.
• Coordination with the incoming inspection activity.
• Raising NCR in the case of non-conformities observed at a supplier, in the goods receipt or in the production line.
• Follow up for NCR closure with supplier.
• Day to day Quality problem troubleshooting with suppliers.
• Working with the supply chain function ensure the professional management of the Supplier relationship.
• Visit, assess, approve, and audit suppliers within the UK and abroad.
• Execute quality notifications/non conformities in SAP to secure availability for goods and services for direct and / or indirect requirements
• Action Quality Rejects and Quality Investigation Reports in a timely manner by liaising with suppliers and the quality personnel.
• Support with cost reduction initiatives with regards to outsourcing and sub-contracting.
• Support the relevant functions to monitor KPI’s to optimise supply chain performance in support of spares and production requirements.
• Communicate progress and escalate recurring issues to the Quality Manager
• Maintain safe working practises for self and others in accordance with the Company’s policy on Health and Safety.
• Ability to oversee and sign off tool manufacture and sample approval.
• Understand a range of manufacturing processes including castings, mouldings, machining and assembly and have the ability to review and make recommendations for continuous improvement

Requirements • Ability to read complex drawings.
• M/S Word and M/S Excel at an intermediate level.
• Good working knowledge of SAP or equivalent MRP system is preferable.
• Knowledge and understanding of lean manufacturing and the 8 wastes.
• Knowledge and understanding of the Cost of Non Conformance. Member of Institute of Quality Assurance an advantage.
• HNC/HND mechanical/production qualified minimum.
• Knowledge and understanding of MOD AQAP standards an advantage.
• Knowledge and understanding of PED/MED/ATEX/MaD directives
• 2 years min Supplier Quality Assurance experience in manufacturing.
• Experience in the application of PPAP/APQP process.
• Experience of applying 8D (or similar) problem solving methodology
