Responsible for the mechanical design and layout of custom hydro-turbine equipment. Interface with the complete powerhouse equipment scope to include generator, balance-of-plant equipment and civil structure.
Primary customer contact for technical issues on large custom turbine projects.
Perform stress calculations on critical components and produce CAD drawings of all manufactured parts.
Supervise projects from the design concept to the finished product including all phases of design, tolerancing, layout, and detail drawings.
Train and provide technical supervision to Mechanical Engineers.
Serve as the technical lead on complex proposals including interface with Sales and Marketing, proposal preparation and technical presentations to customers.
After-market testing and troubleshooting of turbine mechanical issues.
Preparation of technical papers and presentations at major conferences
Development of mechanical analysis tools and training of Mechanical Engineers on the use of those tools.
Create custom new turbine designs that will allow us to compete directly with lower cost manufacturers.
The incumbent is required to choose and utilize known, yet unspecified concepts and principles to address work-related problems and situations.
Develops engineering deliverables for multiple orders of standard products, as well as custom engineered solutions to customer Statement of work or Statement of Requirements.
Proficient MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Proficient Computer Aided Design (CAD) Systems (SolidWorks, Siemens NX, ANSYS)
BS in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering
Advanced engineering degree or Professional Engineering Certification
Certification as a Professional Engineering Designation (P.Eng.). 5 to 10 years as a mechanical engineer (design, reliability, overall)
Hydro Power Generation (Mining and Pulp & Paper an asset)
Mechanical equipment like turbines, pumps, rolls for optimizing processes and improving productivity.
