Position description We are looking for a General Manager to lead the execution of our Data Asset Management strategy in Wärtsilä. As a digitally transforming organization, much of Wärtsilä’s value lies in its data assets. Wärtsilä is in a unique position, with deep market penetration, and rich domain expertise. We have sensors embedded in systems across our enormous global install base feeding data back into IoT platforms; we have massive enterprise data warehouses with information enriching those data streams; we have deep expertise in productized data analysis via our recent acquisitions of Eniram and Greensmith. We are now in a position where we can pull these strings together to develop a true organization-wide Data Asset Management strategy.

Responsibilities That Data Asset Management strategy is a core contributor to Wärtsilä’s overall strategic vision – “enabling sustainable societies with smart technologies”. This means using and developing our data assets to provide real insight and real business value. We need to build and maintain systems to handle that data, to clean it and provide effective master data governance, to put the power to analyse and visualize it in the hands of data scientists, and to put the results in the hands of end users.

Your role will be supporting and executing on that strategy, working with your own team and with colleagues across the organization to ensure that Wärtsilä’s data assets are effectively managed and provide a solid basis for the next generation of Wärtsilä solutions.

You will report into the VP Digital Engineering, and work closely with your colleagues the Director, Software Engineering and the GM, Emerging Technologies. You will also liaise closely with the Information Architect within the Information Management team. Your role will be instrumental in bringing Wärtsilä the power to deliver on its digital promises.
