Background of the thesis: Project risks are combination of several risk categories; country, customer, safety, schedule, technology etc. Risk evaluation requires awareness of risks in products, processes, functions both with internal and external stakeholders globally. ISO9001 standard revision in 2015 emphasizes proper management of risks and promotes use of risk registers.
Successful risk management requires that the information is collected from the different sources and used efficiently in management of sales and delivery projects. Risk management of project portfolio is important for success of business unit. Opportunities and risk mitigation processes are important to recognize and describe.
Objective of the thesis (for Valmet): Target of the thesis work is to develop principles and methods how risk and opportunity information is available and usable to support management decisions. Existing methods and tools will work as a basis, but thesis work scope covers whole risk management system including reporting and daily management practices needed. The scoping of the thesis and developing the research question and making appropriate choices concerning the literature and empirical data will be made by the thesis worker during the thesis work process.
We see that the Master’s Thesis would probably fit best to a student who has been studying in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management, DIEM (or similar, i.e. Tuotantotalous) in Aalto, Tampere (TTY) or Oulu as her/his major or minor, and whose studies have oriented towards project business/project management, or whose studies at least include project courses. Therefore, this thesis work could hopefully be supervised by a DIEM professor in student’s home university.
|We offer:||Six months salary based contract and supervision of thesis work.|
