Postdoctoral Researcher/Doctoral Student (Deep Learning Implementations)

The Machine Learning Group at Laboratory of Signal Processing at TUT is looking for postdoctoral researcher in the field of deep learning implementations. The position will be filled for fixed term of 1 year (Jun. 2018 – Jun 2019), with possible extension. Also advanced doctoral students can be considered for the position. The research is part of an Academy of Finland project, where we study lightweight implementations of deep neural networks for video and audio data processing, with applications in the strong working machines ecosystem of the Tampere region. The group uses Python based libraries; most importantly the Keras/Tensorflow stack and the PyTorch library.

Job description:

The main task in the position is to study efficient implementation of deep learning systems. The particular research topics will be discussed and planned to fit the research background and the main interests of the applicant. Moreover, we appreciate participation in project management and grant writing.


The applicant is required to hold a PhD degree in computer science, statistics, signal processing or a related area. The topic of the PhD or the subsequent research of the applicant should be relevant to the position. Previous international academic and research experience is appreciated in the application.

The salary will be based on both the job demands and the employee's personal performance in accordance with the University Salary System. According to the criteria applied to teaching and research staff the position of a Postdoctoral Researcher is placed on the job demands levels 5-6. In addition, employees receive performance based salary.

Trial period:

Trial period of 6 months applies.


The position will be filled for a fixed-term period of 12 months starting 1 June 2018 onwards or as mutually agreed.
