Tampere University of Technology (TUT) is an active scientific community of 1,700 employees and more than 8,300 students. The University operates in the form of a foundation and has a long-standing tradition of collaboration with other research institutions and industry. Many of the fields of research and study represented at the University play a key role in addressing global challenges. Internationality is an inherent part of all the University's activities. Welcome to join us at TUT!
The Faculty of Engineering Sciences is the only purely technology-oriented faculty at Tampere University of Technology. The Faculty offers high-quality education leading towards bachelor's, master's and postgraduate degrees. The Faculty administers one bachelor's degree programme, three master’s degree programmes that are conducted in Finnish, two international master's degree programmes, and one doctoral programme.
Laboratories in the Faculty include the Laboratory of Automation and Hydraulics, the Laboratory of Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Systems, and the Laboratory of Materials Science. In addition to the high-level basic research in the fields of the laboratories, the Faculty is famous of its strong collaboration with industry.
The research conducted at the Laboratory of Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Systems (MEI) covers mechanical engineering area widely. The main research themes are Design and Development, Manufacturing and Automation, and Life-Cycle Management. In addition MEI has Engineering Intelligence as cross-sectional research theme. The laboratory offers a wide-ranging environment for teaching and research, which corresponds to the needs of our more and more complex world. Research of the laboratory covers not only the basic technologies for mechanical engineering but also the whole product process of a machine system. The cornerstone of all operations of MEI is cooperation with other research institutes, companies and organizations. MEI implements the strategic goals of TUT in the fields of Digital operating environment- Intelligent Machines and Energy- and eco-efficiency. MEI is an active contributor in SMACC - Smart Machines and Manufacturing Competence Centre.
