Tenure Track (Business Data Analytics)

The Faculty of Business and Built Environment is multidisciplinary by nature. Our research explores questions of sustainable built environment and sustainable, technology-centric competitiveness.

Our research interests in Information and Knowledge Management focus on offering, utilizing and managing information and knowledge in organizations in order to improve their competitive advantage. We seek answers to questions such as how information and/or knowledge is best used by different stakeholders, how it is offered, how it creates value, how it can be improved, and why different challenges and obstacles emerge. We are particularly interested in value creation mechanisms, such as information technologies, data assets, data analytics, work systems, and different types of networks. The candidate appointed to the open tenure track position in Business Data Analytics will work in close collaboration with the Business Data Research Group (DARE). The group explores different data analysis practices, their economic and social impacts, different business systems, and develops value-creating solutions for industries and other organizations.

Job description:

We invite applications for an open tenure track position in the area of Business Data Analytics.

We are broadly interested in candidates who complement our current expertise and activities in the field and the DARE research group. We are interested in candidates with an understanding of both the business domain and the methods and tools of data analytics. Candidates with expertise in only one of these areas do not fulfil the requirements of the position. However, we have no preferences for the candidates’ business domain, methodological stance (such as hypothesis-driven vs. data-driven research), or their approach towards data analytics.

The candidates’ research may explore several different perspectives on data analytics in a business context. We are especially looking for candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • data-based value creation

  • data-based decision making

  • tools and methods of data analysis for collecting, analysing and visualizing data and for supporting decision-making

  • tools and methods for intelligent business data analysis

  • data governance in business and for business data (including data cleaning, quality improvement, data processes, etc.)

  • visualization of business data

  • software applications for data analysis in a business context.

The successful candidate is expected to:

  • pursue and supervise scientific research in the field

  • participate in education in the field of industrial and information management

  • participate in the activities of the national and international scientific communities

  • build networks with research groups at TUT, companies and other organizations

  • acquire external funding

  • commit to the strategy of the University

The position will be filled at the level of Assistant Professor (1st term or 2nd term) or Associate Professor.

All candidates considered for a tenure track position are expected to:

  • hold an applicable doctoral degree in a relevant field of science

  • demonstrate the capacity for independent scholarly activity

  • possess the teaching skills required for the successful performance of their duties, and

  • have the ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary university environment and with industry.

We appreciate a strong and ambitious publication record and previous experience of research funding acquisition, thesis supervision and collaboration with research networks.
