Description of position: We are looking for a highly motivated research scientist to lead the strategy building and successful progress in strategic collaborations in the NDD area. The NDD Research Director is involved in the evaluation of new ideas, in steering of the on-going research projects and in leading the strategic collaborations. In this position, you will lead the TA research portfolio in matrix but will not be a supervisor in the line organization.

You have an opportunity to work cross-functionally within the whole Orion R&D and together with other Orion functions and with external collaborators globally.
Description of unit: Orion’s pharmaceutical innovations are created within its R&D organization, including non-clinical research and clinical development. The organization employs top professionals in the field of drug development. The core therapy areas of Orion's pharmaceutical R&D are central nervous system (CNS) disorders, oncology and respiratory for which Orion develops inhaled Easyhaler® pulmonary drugs.

We have seen growth in R&D productivity over the last years and have now an exciting R&D pipeline. In order to ensure future development, we have started to build capabilities for biologics discovery. In addition we are strengthening our power in small molecule research. Experienced professionals with new competencies are needed to guarantee our continuous success.

Therapy area -unit belongs to Orion R&D organisation and is accountable for all the projects within the therapy areas (TA). In this CNS TA, there are both research and development experts ensuring the successful project portfolio in neurodegenerative diseases (NDD) and pain. All the team members are reporting to the Vice President of R&D. The team works closely with the Project Management Office, all R&D global functions and Orion Proprietary Products Business on the new targets, projects and in building the R&D strategy. Importantly and aligned with the company strategy, the Therapy Area leads the strategic collaborations with academics and other Pharma companies to find and progress new project ideas towards new medicines to help patients.

The NDD Research Director, TA CNS wil be based in Orion Turku, Finland. The person will report to Vice President, R&D.
Requirements: We expect you to have:

- PhD degree in natural sciences or medical doctor’s degree
- Long experience in carrying out scientific research related to central nervous system
- Strong presentation, communication and influencing skills with high impact
- Fluent spoken and written English
