Description of position: We are looking for an Analytical Biochemist to take main responsibility for biophysical characterization of antibodies. For this purpose, you will assess self- and cross-protein interactions, hydrophobicity, aggregation, thermal stability and expression levels of antibodies. You will spend time in the laboratory doing hands-on research, but part of your work is also done in cooperation with our partners (contract research organizations). Initially your tasks will include mapping potential partners and participating in collaboration negotiations related to your research area.
Description of unit: Orion’s pharmaceutical innovations are created within its R&D organization, including non-clinical research and clinical development. The organization employs top professionals in the field of drug development. The core therapy areas of Orion's pharmaceutical R&D are central nervous system (CNS) disorders, oncology and respiratory for which Orion develops inhaled Easyhaler® pulmonary drugs.

We have seen growth in R&D productivity over the last years and have now an exciting R&D pipeline. In order to ensure future development, we have started to build capabilities for biologics discovery. In addition we are strengthening our power in small molecule research. Experienced professionals with new competencies are needed to guarantee our continuous success.

The recently established Biologics function is part of our R&D organization and it is responsible for bringing forward our biologics pipeline. To fulfill this exciting task, the Biologics function is now recruiting several R&D experts with a track record of developing therapeutic antibodies. The function is new and you have a great opportunity to be part of developing its processes.

Requirements: We expect you to have extensive work experience in pharma industry developing therapeutic antibodies. We appreciate thorough hands-on experience of laboratory work related to methods used for biophysical characterization of antibodies. Such methods can be for example surface plasmon resonance, size-exclusion chromatography, NMR and thermal shift assay. You can also have a long academic career with a PhD. We value experience of collaborating with partners and CROs. This position requires excellent English language skills.

To be successful in this role you need to take responsibility independently and act decisively making decisions in ambiguous and new situations. This job requires excellent networking and negotiating skills. We value also high problem-solving skills as well as creativity.
