Description of position: We are looking for 2 professionals with a strong background in antibody discovery and protein engineering to join our new Biologics function in Turku, Finland. One of these openings is for an Antibody engineer with expertise in therapeutic antibody development and one for a Protein biologist with strong molecular biology skills.

As our new Antibody engineer your main responsibilities will include characterization of new therapeutic antibodies in the laboratory to support discovery research projects. This will include assay setups and validation, binding studies using for example surface plasmon resonance (Biacore) and bilayer interferometry technology (Octet), as well as functional studies.

As our new Protein biologist you get to provide scientific and technical expertise for discovery research projects through the design and expression of recombinant proteins, including antibodies, and cell engineering for function-based candidate screening. Hands-on laboratory work is also included as the work will be done both in-house and in cooperation with CROs.

In both roles you will also be involved in choosing the optimal technology for antibody generation.
Description of unit: Orion’s pharmaceutical innovations are created within its R&D organization, including non-clinical research and clinical development. The organization employs top professionals in the field of drug development. The core therapy areas of Orion's pharmaceutical R&D are central nervous system (CNS) disorders, oncology and respiratory for which Orion developes inhaled Easyhaler® pulmonary drugs.

We have seen growth in R&D productivity over the last years and have now an exciting R&D pipeline. In order to ensure future development, we have started to build capabilities for biologics discovery. In addition we are strengthening our power in small molecule research. Experienced professionals with new comptencies are needed to guarantee our continuous success.

Orion Pharma has recently initiated efforts to establish Biologics to its modalities selection. The recently established Biologics function is part of our R&D organization and it is responsible for bringing forward our biologics pipeline. Requirements: To succeed in this Antibody engineer’s role you should be an experienced Biacore user and have working experience in pharmaceutical industry or long academic career. A PhD with a track record of developing therapeutic antibodies and thorough hands-on experience of laboratory work related to antibody engineering are appreciated. In addition, if you have industry experience of collaboration with partners and CROs, you are our ideal candidate.

To succeed in this Protein biologist’s role you should have a PhD and a track record of developing therapeutic antibodies. Strong molecular biology skills with direct hands-on experience in the design and expression of recombinant proteins, including antibodies, cell engineering for function-based candidate screening as demonstrated by publications/patents are also important. Working experience in pharmaceutical industry is appreciated.

As we are building a new team, patience and willingness to create new is a must. Both roles include collaboration within Orion and CROs. Strong communication skills and ability to convince your audience is an asset in these roles.
Our main working language is English therefore we expect excellent English language skills.
